EPA Adds 18 Chemicals to Safer Chemical Ingredients List

EPA is adding 18 chemicals to the Safer Chemical Ingredients List (SCIL), supporting Administrator Zeldin’s commitment to transparency, innovation and safer chemistry.

The SCIL is a list of chemicals that EPA’s Safer Choice program has evaluated and determined meet Safer Choice criteria. EPA’s Safer Choice program certifies cleaning and other products with ingredients that have met the program’s rigorous human health and environmental safety criteria. With this July 2025 update, the total number of chemicals on the SCIL is 983.

Without an approval from EPA under the Toxic Substances Control Act, new chemistries don’t make it to market, which simultaneously holds back the manufacturing and innovation sectors and keeps older chemistries in regulation. Adding existing chemicals to the SCIL allows manufacturers to find alternatives that meet the criteria of the Safer Choice program. Additions to the SCIL furthers Pillar 1 of Powering the Great American Comeback initiative: Clean Air, Land, and Water for Every American by helping consumers, businesses, and purchasers find chemicals that are among the safest for their functional uses.
