Arsenic Speciation (East)
Arsenic exists in two oxidative states in water: either Arsenite (III) or Arsenate (V).
Arsenite has a valence of +3 - also referred to as trivalent Arsenic.
Arsenate has a valence of +5 - also referred to as pentavalent Arsenic.
When using anion exchange to treat for arsenic it is important to know the valence that is present in the water as most media only remove Arsenate.
Arsenic presence in the form of Arsenite must be oxidized into Arsenate in order or anion exchange to completely remove all of the arsenic present. Reverse osmosis also has this challenge.
This test ensures that if you have Arsenic present in your water, you will know which valence and therefore the best treatment option.
Test kit includes a filtration kit to field filter samples and separate the valences of arsenic.
Lab analysis takes about 5-7 business days upon receipt of samples.
NOTE: If there is a suspicion of Iron or Manganese or these levels have tested high previously - Arsenic should also be tested for.
