“Amebiasis is a disease caused by the ameba Entamoeba histolytica. Worldwide over 500 million individuals have been exposed and up to 100,000 individuals die each year from this parasitic organism.  It is commonly transported via a fecal-oral route and therefore the routes of exposure can be food borne, waterborne, hand to mouth transfer, and there is also a potential sexual route exposure. The exposure route is similar to many routes of exposure to other Waterborne Diseases like Giardia and Cryptosporidium.
